Spotlight on M. J. Fievre, author
We were excited to see our books in the hands of Haitian schoolchildren this week, and so we thought to catch up with one of the writers of these titles, M. J. Fievre.
One Moore Book: It has been a while since our last conversation. What have you been up to this spring, M. J.?
M.J.: Right now, I’m working on a comic book for teens. I’m teaming up with a talented teen artist who specializes in drawing Japanese mangas.
I’m reading "La Belle Amour Humaine,“ a novel by Haitian writer Lyonel Trouillot. I got to meet the author at Livres en Folie, the annual book fair in Port-au-Prince a couple of weeks ago.
I’m writing every day this summer. One of the perks of being a teacher: once school is out, I can relax by the pool with my notebook on my lap and my dog Wiskee at my feet. So many literary projects! I’m going to be busy for weeks.
I’m watching reruns of House, M.D.
I’m listening to the Zouk station on Pandora.
I’m excited for the Anancy Festival taking place at the South Regional/Broward College Library, in Pembroke Pines, FL. I will be reading from "I Am Riding” published by One Moore Book as part of the Haiti series.
The Anancy Festival is a celebration of the Caribbean’s diverse and spectacular cultural heritage, both traditional and contemporary, and is designed to appeal to the young and young at heart. Children and parents will have the opportunity to learn about Caribbean culture, including folklore, history, music, dance, and art.
One Moore Book: Thanks for sharing with us!
