Catching Up with Family
As we embark on our new library project, we are honoring those who played a pivotal role in the success of our organization over the years. The One Moore Book Scholars Program was a work-study program that provided
scholarships to select University of Liberia Honors Students to live in University housing, in exchange for working at the bookstore. Twenty-three students were employed through this program from 2018-2022. This series highlights the work they have done since leaving the University of Liberia. Read OMB Scholar Salice Blamah's story below:
"I am Salice J. Blamah, a former scholar of One Moore Book Scholars Program.
[...] I had unforgettable moments with the kids and remembering them makes me more grateful. Thank you.
I began my graduate study in Rwanda a year after I completed my undergraduate study at the University of Liberia. Currently, I am concluding my study and I will be graduating before the end of the year with a Master’s Degree in Public Health from the University of Rwanda. My academic journey has been phenomenal. It has made me an ardent learner-learning from everything around me. Research, leadership, teamwork, dedication, patriotism, patience, empathy, critical thinking, problem-solving skills, embracing diversity, contextual interpretation, self-love, charity, discipline and many more have been the hallmarks of my academic journey. Being away from home has taught me many life skills that have made me a more “rounded” person.
Raising up young Liberians to live up to their full potential and purpose is one of my greatest desires and it is also my way of giving back to my country. There’s so much to do and so many “candles” to light, but I am hopeful.
~Salice"
